Jakob Schlandt has been closely involved in German energy and climate policy for 20 years. He heads the Hamburg Institut’s policy and management consultancy and is an expert on regulatory and strategic issues. The former head of Tagesspiegel Background Energy & Climate also leads the Hamburg Institut’s office in Berlin. He is very familiar with and well connected to experts, decision-makers and stakeholders – from federal ministries and authorities to political parties, science, companies, associations and NGOs.

Professional experience & qualification

After studying economic history and politics at the University of Liverpool, Jakob Schlandt completed a journalistic traineeship and began working as an economics editor in 2005, initially for the Berliner Zeitung, later also for the Frankfurter Rundschau and the Kölner Stadtanzeiger. After working as a Berlin correspondent for Europolitics, he became head of the specialist briefing Tagesspiegel Background Energy & Climate from 2017 to 2024. In this position, he played a key role in establishing it as the most successful national energy briefing, which reports in particularly depth and is highly analytical. He developed an extensive understanding of regulation and political processes, as well as excellent knowledge of and contacts with stakeholders. In 2020, he completed a Master of Business Administration at the University of London, further developing his management skills and graduating with top marks.
