Wasserstoff rückt als Schlüsselthema der Energiewende zunehmend in den Fokus. Zur Dekarbonisierung des Energiesystems und somit zur Erreichung der Klimaziele kann dieser aber nur beitragen, wenn er nachhaltig produziert und dies auch nachvollziehbar ist. Der Bedarf an grünem Wasserstoff wird künftig enorm steigen – internationale Kooperationen und Lieferbeziehungen sind daher unerlässlich.
In einem länderübergreifenden Forschungsvorhaben befassen sich die Hamburg Institut Research gGmbH und das „Interdisziplinäre wissenschaftliche und technische Zentrum für den Transfer von Technologien für erneuerbare Energien und Wasserstoff des Instituts für erneuerbare Energien der Nationalen Akademie der Wissenschaften der Ukraine“, kurz IBSTC, mit der Entwicklung eines Nachweissystems für grünen Wasserstoff.
Bis Mitte 2026 sollen gemeinschaftlich praxistaugliche und innerhalb weniger Jahre umsetzbare Methoden erarbeitet werden, welche die Nachverfolgbarkeit der „grünen Herkunft“ von Wasserstoff im Handel zwischen der EU und der Ukraine ermöglichen. Durch den Wissenstransfer über Verifizierungs- und Zertifizierungsansätze in der EU fördert das Projekt die Investitionssicherheit und den Export von grünem Wasserstoff aus der Ukraine in die EU.
Das Forschungsvorhaben folgt dem Förderaufruf „Kooperation Grüner Wasserstoff mit der Ukraine, Zentralasien und Südkaukasus“ des Bundesministeriums für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) im Rahmen der Richtlinie zur Förderung von Zuwendungen für internationale Projekte zum Thema grüner Wasserstoff.

German-Ukrainian research cooperation for the certification of green hydrogen
In a transnational research project, Hamburg Institut and the Ukrainian IBSTC are collaborating to scientifically prepare an important link in the supply chain for certified green hydrogen between Ukraine and Germany. The project aims to develop the necessary expertise for the development and operation of a cross-border, internationally compatible hydrogen of origin system for trade between Ukraine and the EU by 2026.
Hydrogen is increasingly becoming the focus of attention as a key topic in the energy transition. However, it can only contribute to the decarbonisation of the energy system and thus to achieving climate targets if it is produced sustainably and in a verifiable manner. The demand for green hydrogen will increase enormously in the future – international cooperation and supply relationships are therefore essential.
In a cross-border research project, Hamburg Institut Research gGmbH and the ‘Interdisciplinary Scientific and Technical Centre for the Transfer of Renewable Energy and Hydrogen Technologies of the Institute for Renewable Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine’ (IBSTC) are working on the development of a verification system for green hydrogen.
The aim is to jointly develop practical methods that can be implemented within a few years, which will enable the traceability of the ‘green origin’ of hydrogen in trade between the EU and Ukraine. By transferring knowledge about verification and certification approaches in the EU, the project promotes investment security and the export of green hydrogen from Ukraine to the EU.
The research project is in response to the call for proposals ‘Green Hydrogen Cooperation with Ukraine, Central Asia and South Caucasus’ issued by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) under the funding programme for international projects on the topic of green hydrogen.
